A genuinely early piece of horological history: this is a classic early-20th-century “trench watch” style timepiece from West End Watch Co.’s “Matchless” line — the wire-lug case and oversized crown are hallmarks of watches converted from pocket-watch movements for wrist wear, a design born out of WWI-era military necessity. A strong find for serious vintage collectors.
Movement: Mechanical manual-wind, Swiss made (“Swiss Made” printed at 6 o’clock), with a subsidiary running seconds dial at 6 o’clock — no date function, consistent with the era.
Case & Dial: Nickel-plated case with wire lugs (a hallmark trench-watch feature), classic white enamel dial with bold black Arabic numerals, blued steel spade hands, and diamond-shaped markers at 12, 3, 6, and 9. “West End Watch Co / Matchless” branding below 12. Fitted with a brown fabric NATO-style strap.
Condition: Good vintage condition — enamel dial shows light age spotting near the edges but numerals and branding remain crisp and fully legible, hands intact and matched, case shows honest patina consistent with genuine age. Movement running, subsidiary seconds confirmed active.
